Visions Reborn posted on Monday, April 7, 2014

Nine years and eight months ago today, several people I have had the honor of calling friends and myself formally opened a Star Wars forum RPG called Star Wars Visions. We saw peaks over 100 active members and lows to a dozen or two during the seven years it was active. Those low times led to it being put on hiatus.

Until now.

Though I am traditionally loathe to reset games, with the corruption of the old forum (death to spammers), we've started anew. Star Wars Visions rises once more, set in an alternate timeline where mere mundanes sparked a long and bloody galactic civil war that saw the ancient Republic torn asunder and a military coup led to the formation of the Galactic Empire.

The player associations in the game are:
• The Galactic Empire - Ruling over the Deep Core, Core Worlds, Colonies, Inner Rim, and tentative control over areas of the Expansion Region, this Empire is not the monolith of the movies yet remains nothing to overlook for it is still the most powerful single entity in the Galaxy.

• The True Sons of the Republic - Once elements of the Republic Navy, the True Sons refused to swear oaths of allegiance to the newly formed Empire and took what resources they could rogue. Though unable to fight the Empire head to head, they are still a force to be reckoned with.

• The Sundance Cartel - The collapse of Republic rule of law over large swaths of the Galaxy has resulted in criminal organizations like the Sundance Cartel springing up and take power in the furthest reaches of the Outer Rim.

The site(s) are gradually being updated to reflect these new realities. In the mean time, feel free to join us.

Freelancer Jobs & Notoriety Points posted on Wednesday, March 11, 2009

We are pleased to announce that, in his capacity as the Administrator for Roleplay Development, Daaros Zaar's first project for the sim is ready for release. Simmers, meet the Galactic Employment Centre, where jobs for freelancers and those affiliated with freelance-type factions can find work to earn credits.

Jobs are available on a tiered basis; while it is still being finetuned by exposure to actual use, there are currently seven levels of jobs, earning ten thousand credits at the lowest level to half a million credits at the highest level. Obviously, the higher-level ones are rarer and more difficult to execute.

In addition to that, a new rating has been introduced to Star Wars Visions: Notoriety. Each freelancer mission comes with notoriety points as part of its rewards. Notoriety points can also be earned for some freeform roleplays and some outlaw characters have already been awarded several.

Until a rules page explaining Freelancer Quests completely is made, a brief description of the mission posts will be made:

Job Type: There are many kinds of jobs, ranging from assassination to espionage to security.
Difficulty Level: Pushover, Very Easy, Easy, Moderate, Hard, Very Hard, Nightmare. One rating for each level, rather than just using numbers.
Reward: The minimum reward given for completion of the mission.
Bonus: The maximum additional rewards given for skilful completion of mission. Don't expect to get full bonuses often!

While most of the jobs will be posted by NPC entities(the CSA, Hapes, Kuat Drive Yards, Hutts, etc.), player-controlled factions can also post specific missions, after consulting with the Administration on the details.

Finally, the roleplaying for those jobs will be done in a moderated scenario in the Galaxy. If you wish to claim a job, post in that job's thread and then the moderator will contact you. Initially, most of the moderating will be done by myself as I rub the rough edges off the whole thing, but I hope that the CoMmers will jump onboard as moderators once the GEC is fully established!

Daaros has done an excellent job, and I hope all our present and future freelancers enjoy this new feature. Drop by the forums today and check it out!

New Administrator & New Scenario posted on Sunday, February 22, 2009

Daaros Zaar, formerly HA/MB, has been elected as SWV's third Admin. He will be the sim's Administrator of Roleplay Development, working closely with me on the New Visions scenarios as well as developing new scenarios for freelancers. Congratulations to DZ.

In addition, the first scenario of the New Visions epoch, Flashes Before Your Eyes, has begun! The devious Prime Minister Paite is manipulating everyone around him, and the Arlan-Florini conflict is heating up. Characters from all factions will soon find themselves drawn up into the coming fray. Will yours be one of them?

Rebel Alliance Leadership Change posted on Sunday, February 15, 2009

Effective immediately, Will has handed off the baton of RA leadership to Han Afrika. Inquiries regarding the Rebel Alliance can be directed to HA from hereon out. His new character name will be Daaros Zaar, and will be changed on the forums after the admin election, so as not to confuse anyone.

Myself and Karl would also like to take the opportunity to thank Will for his past efforts as leader of the RA. We look forward to continuing to work with him on Staff projects in the future.

Jumpstarting Activity posted on Saturday, February 14, 2009

It's been some time since the SWV Staff has communicated with the membership as a whole. I feel that it is appropriate for us to do so now, however, as there are a few important issues that need to be addressed.

First of all, it is with regret that we announce that Jacen Boshuu has decided to resign his post as an Administrator of the Star Wars: Visions simulation for personal reasons. Jacen has been of incredible assistance to the sim, and a major creative drive behind innumerable projects, not to mention a voice of calm reason in Staff/Admin debates as well as an impartial moderator.

So, we salute Jacen, and wish him the best in his future endeavors. He will retain an Advisory position on the SWV Staff, so that his input can still be put to use as we move the sim forward.

With Jacen's absence, however, we are going to be holding an election for a new Administrator in the coming days.

Moving on to other business, unfortunately SWV has fallen on hard times, activity-wise. While we had some great momentum going into the autumn of '08, the inactivity brought on by the holiday season has unfortunately stretched for far too long. The time has come for us to get out of the 'inactivity rut' and back on track for 2009.

To that end, the Administration has tentatively scheduled the following events and rules development for the upcoming weeks, in five distinct stages. I've even alliterated them for easy remembrance!

I. Reorganization

  • The Administration will be reorganized to give us a little bit more focus on respective areas of the sim:

    1. Karl, in his new role as the Administrator of Community Development, will be responsible primarily for recruitment, in all areas including but not limited to general membership and developers. He will also handle any forum disputes, bringing matters to the attention of the Council of Members if need be.

    2. KT: Administrator of Rules Development
It's fairly self-explanatory, but my primary role will continue to be primarily rules development and implementation on all levels.

    3. Third Admin: Administrator of Roleplay Development. Whoever is elected as our third admin will be primarily responsible for moderating RP threads, supervising the CoM in its moderating duties, and creating the new NPC scenarios for freelancers (i.e. NPC bounties for bounty hunters) that are to be released soon (see below).

  • Please note that these positions are all simply to help the Administration focus on specific areas -- all Admins are still Admins, and each still have a vote on all issues, all can moderate threads, etc. Simply because I'm the Rules Developer doesn't mean that I won't get outvoted on something or moderate a thread. We're all in it together, we're just adding a bit of organization to keep us focused.

  • The non-Administrative Staffmembers will now be assigned specific projects from an Administrator (probably me, in the rules area). They'll be kept busy and held accountable for the work they're assigned to accomplish.

II. Recruitment

  • All current, active SWV members are going to be going into overdrive to recruit old SWV veterans as well as new members. Karl will be leading up this effort as we seek to increase the active membership to previous levels. This recruitment period will last two or three days, beginning Sunday, February 15.

  • An announcement concerning current events will also be sent out as a mass e-mail to former members to aid with recruitment.

  • To assist in returning as many active members as possible, faction creation rules will be temporarily relaxed. Government factions will temporarily require only three startup members, and all other factions will require only two. All potential factions must still submit the required forms to be approved by the Staff, however (this includes an in-depth IC faction history). This membership reduction is temporary, and I will stress again that a creative, sensible, and well-communicated IC history is still a prerequisite to approval.

III. Referendums

  • Nominations for the vacant Admin position will be held. The nomination period for the Administration election will last for four days, after which the election will be held as per the Administration Election rules.

  • Elections for the vacant CoM post will begin after the Administration position has been filled, pending a referendum on whether the CoM should continue for the rest of the term with four members.

IV. Rules Releases

  • Vehicle costs will soon be released so that characters can own their own vehicles.

  • Spices, and their costs, will soon be available as the first part of a future "Black Market" items release. These will be purchased on the market board, the same as any other item, for now.

  • Space station costs will soon be released. Factions (and individuals) will be able to purchase and build stations as per the station construction rules, however, there will be new meterage limits for station construction.

  • The limit on personal starships will soon be raised to 820 meters. This means that members will be able to purchase ships up to Munificient-class Star Frigates. However, maintenance costs (including the monthly payment of the crews) will still be in effect.

  • Projects currently underway include adding new vehicles, ships, and items; reworking the mainteneance and NPC/Mercenary rules, adding new space stations. In addition, the statistics of certain ships and vehicles are being reviewed and adjusted (Juggernaut, A-Wings, Bulwarks).

V. Roleplay

  • A new official chapter in SWV's history will be started with its first episode, "The Insidious Florini." The moderated scenario "Flashes Before Your Eyes" will kick this new episode off. This will be the start of several major planned events revolving around a single pre-planned plot for all factions. All members are welcome to join; it should not take long to bring to completion, after which the next official scenario will begin.

  • This is merely to provide something interesting for everyone to do and to jumpstart activity with a little nudge from the Staff; please note that anyone may still RP anything they like, provided it fits within the timeline as always. Noone is being forced to participate or anything like that.

  • Roleplay can/will continue as normal during this epoch, again, it's simply an additional fun thing to participate in -- and there will be rewards for those who do so, ranging from shipyards and taxable planets for factions to rare items and even ships for characters.

  • I'm also excited to announce that there will be new scenarios for bounty hunters and "freelancers" and the like. These will be posted in a new forum, and wil allow freelancers to make IC contacts, gain a reputation for themselves, and generate income without joining a faction.

That about sums it up. I know that this is a rather extensive announcement, but I hope that it makes you eager to see what's ahead. The last several weeks have been a "dark age" in SWV's history, but, to quote Harvey Dent's clich้, the night is darkest before the dawn.

Let's usher in a new era together.

Temporary Member Ban posted on Friday, October 13, 2006

Due to a number of complaints and because of the behavior exhibited when asked to cease what has been taken as harassment, the CoM has decided that Kallina Xoes Owens be banned from the SWV boards and IRC server for the time of a week, not including the time she has already been removed from IRC. This ban begins immediately and will end Thursday, October 19th, 2006. This vote was unanimous in favor of the ban.

Should this behavior continue once the ban is lifted, it shall be reinstated for the period of two months. If it does not stop then, it will be permanent. While the CoM and the SWV Administration does not ban players lightly, we will not tolerate this kind of behavior. As usual, any questions may be addressed to myself or any other member of the CoM.

SWV Version 2.0 posted on Sunday, August 20, 2006

As promised to the members for our 2nd Anniversary, SWVisions now has a new website. I hope you enjoy the new look and layout.

There will be several additions and possibly some changes as content from the v1 site is still being worked on, but most of the original site content has already been converted and is useable. Also keep an eye out for new announcements, additions to this site, and rules upgrades from the admins.

Coming this August... Biennial Celebrations! posted on Tuesday, June 20, 2006

Yes Visionaries, we are nearing our two year anniversary. We've come far, but we still have a long road ahead of us. We're growing, slower than when we first opened, but that is expected.

Our goals for this August:

• A revamped Galactic Map. Our goal is to canonize it completely, so expect to see some systems moved around a bit as they're placed into more appropriate positions. I blame Math's dreaded Force Sneeze!

• Revamped stats and entirely new rule sets, including those over aspects of the game not yet before implemented!

• Much, much more...

What other things are in store? Only time will tell. Just remember folks, every group needs members. Try to go out and recruit. You don't even need to know the person well, just give them the good word and a link. Hopefully they'll enjoy the sense of community we share.

If you have any suggestions on what we should do this August, please let us know! We in the Administration are here for you.

The Grand Canonization Project posted on Monday, May 22, 2006

As you may have noticed, some names on the SWV Rules ship pages have been changed. This is to better represent their true canon name and/or designation, rather than slang or just whatever Alex felt like calling it! *grin*

If you know of any other that are improperly named (the Modified Escort Carrier of the Rebels bugs me as it has to have a better canon name, assuming it's canon), please inform myself.

Also on the canonization front, Math and Jacen are working on moving star systems around to their more canon locations, as well as adding in even more. This is to better flesh out our Galaxy. Once the Galaxy itself is more or less complete, individual system maps can be constructed. Then, later on, the maps of each and every world within our growing Galaxy!

Though we're obviously not purely canon, we do try to keep what should be canon within that general bracket.

Oh, and suggest the Vong or their damned living world and expect a butt whooping.

Encyclopedia Creation and a Contest posted on Tuesday, April 18, 2006

Greetings Visionaries!

I wish to announce the creation of the SWVisions Encyclopedia, an online wikipedia for SWV's use. Fun, eh?

It will have both IC and OOC uses and, hopefully, become an excellent resource for our membership.

Also, though the reward is to be determined, we are seeking a SWVisions logo. Something unique that will identify us as us. A Star Wars feel without that nasty little copyright infringement aspect! Interested? Please submit entries here:

The Community shall vote on the logo which they believe best represents us, as per our tradition of democracy.

Year Two Month 1 posted on Thursday, September 1, 2005

Greetings SWVisionaries:

The Administration wishes all of you starting your school years (no matter if college, Junior High, Senior High, or Middle school) the best of luck. Education will provide a cornerstone to your future and open doors otherwise not accessible to you.

The Star Wars Visions RPG is steadily improving, being fleshed out more and more. While we do frequently get new members, some go inactive. We in the Administration would like to know why. What can we do to improve the game? Remember, we're here to represent you, the players. We are always willing to help you and always willing to consider your ideas. Unlike the admins of many games, we realize that without you, we simply couldn't exist. The present Administration was elected by the player body. We represent you and are definitely there to listen.

I'd also like to announce the start of SWVisions' first Historical Campaign. Here we will go back in time 5000 years to play out some of the lesser known battles of the Great Hyperspace War, when the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire first went head to head. The technology is primitive but the fight for survival no less real. You may choose to be a warrior with the Sith Empire or an officer of the Galactic Republic. The choice is yours and has no repercussions on your present character. You can find the information for the RP at:
We plan on starting it by Monday September 5th, 2005 at the latest.

And remember folks, recruit! All factions need many more active members. The more members, the more varied the RPs.

Thank you for your patronage.

Temporary Ban posted on Wednesday, August 17, 2005

Katria Vassileva has been banned both from the forums and chat server until August 29th.

Specifics will not be disclosed, but let me make it plain and clear to everyone that flaming other members either in PM or in our public channels will not be tolerated.

A specific set of rules regarding IRC conduct will be posted on the SWV site and Forums in the coming days. We shouldn't have to spell out what will not be tolerated as far as behavior goes, but in light of this recent episode, we hope that further bans can be avoided by doing such.

A banning posted on Saturday, July 30, 2005

Erion Graveski is hereby permanently banned from the SWVisions simulation. Reasons include deleting work done on the sim client, not excluding work done by Rhou, as well as threatening to hack the SWVisions client and servers.

Should he attempt this, the proper authorities WILL be contacted and he will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

This decision was unanimous by the Administration and was reached after a few days of discussion. We don't take perma-bans, or any ban for that matter, lightly.

Also note that she officially added The Order, The Doashim's Claw and the Church of Quicquid as selectable groups. Set your affiliation to your proper faction if you've joined.

Also... We're quickly nearing our SIXTH month of operation. While not long compared to the big boys, we have grown incredibly and it doesn't seem to truly be slowing. People join us from the other sims due to our friendly environment and our pure RP style.

If you know someone who likes Star Wars or to Role Play, invite them! They might not want to join your group, but so what? You can oppose each other in character but still be friends out of character. Trust me, it's common here.

Keep having fun, and if you have any issues, contact me. I'll do my best to work any problem out.

Happy Holidays and Sim Updates posted on Saturday, December 25, 2004

From all the SWV Administration and Staff, we wish you Happy Holidays and a safe New Years. Don't do anything stupid, folks. We do care about your safety.

On to sim related news... The Administration has finalised the rules for Character Death, Defections, Spying and Intelligence gathering. These go side by side with our already existing rules, such as no unregistered multi accounts, godmoding and rumor mongering. We're hardliners when it comes to enforcing the rules. It's not difficult to follow them. The new rules can be found at:

On another note, we may soon be receiving the addition of a new Visions faction. This group will be our first religious faction, upping our faction count to four if it is approved.

Hapes and NPC Governments posted on Thursday, December 16, 2004

The Hapes Consortium has been dissolved as a prospective group due to real life circumstances many members had. This is a shame as I truly hoped for it to become a key part of the Visions community.

However, the Administration is currently discussing NPC governments. Some would be under the control of current factions, but would be an important aspect of our role playing environment.

Suggested governments include:
- Bacta Cartels (Thyferra - Pro-Imperial)
- Bothan Council (Bothan Space - Marginally pro-Alliance, officially neutral)
- Chiss Ascendancy (Chiss space - Marginally pro-Imperial, will fire on any incomming craft)
- Corellian Diktat (Corellian Sector - Pro-Imperial)
- Corporate Sector Authority (Corporate Sector - Imperial controlled, yet willing to sell to all)
- Duros Congomerate (Duros - Imperial aligned)
- Hapes Consortium (Hapes Cluster - Imperial dominated, against anything non-Hapan)
- Hutt Council (Hutt Space - Neutral, out for profit)
- Mon Calamari Council (Mon Calimari - Pro-Alliance, under Imperial domination)

If you have other ideas for NPC governments, please let us know. The more we flesh out our universe, the better the experience for all.

I would love to see some eventually become full Factions within Visions, however that is a secondary goal.
